John Frawley "Il n'existe pas de bon livre récent sur l'astrologie horaire, bien qu'il y en ait beaucoup d'exécrables. De loin, le meilleur ouvrage sur le sujet est celui écrit par William Lilly en 1647: Christian Astrology. Des rois et des princes de toute l'Europe venaient consulter William Lilly. Il avait lu tout ce qui pouvait exister sur l'astrologie et recevait environ 2000 clients par an, ses livres de notes qui ont survécu le prouvent. Ce mélange d'expérience et de savoir fait que son travail n'a pas d'équivalent… Lire Lilly est vraiment amusant -sa personnalité se fait sentir très nettement, ainsi que sa grande passion pour l'astrologie."

- Pouvez-vous nous expliquer -simplement- ce qu'est l'astrologie horaire?

John Frawley "L'astrologie horaire est la branche de l'astrologie qui donne des réponses précises à des questions précises grâce à l'analyse d'une carte du ciel dressée pour l'instant où la question est posée."

- Quels furent les rapports entre William Lilly et l'église?

John Frawley "Lilly était un fervent chrétien -tous les grands astrologues ont été des fervents disciples d'une ou l'autre des religions révélées. Il a nommé son livre "astrologie chrétienne" pour contester l'erreur commise par les presbytériens -qui correspondraient aux protestants évangéliques de l'époque moderne- suivant lesquels l'astrologie était contraire à la religion."

- Etes-vous croyant? Un chrétien pratiquant? Un bouddhiste? Cela vous semble t-il conflictuel avec votre pratique?

John Frawley "Je suis un catholique pratiquant. Mon étude de l'astrologie renforce ma foi et ma foi renforce ma compréhension de l'astrologie. L'astrologie sans foi est impossible - c'est évident en ce qui concerne une bonne partie de "l'astrologie" moderne."

- Saturne est également appelé le Seigneur du karma. Que pensait William Lilly de la notion de karma?

John Frawley "Il aurait fallu lui poser la question."

-"Comment avez-vous découvert William Lilly?

- Some time ago you indicated me William Lilly's book on horary astrology using the following words:

John Frawley "There isn't a good modern book on horary, although there are a lot of extremely bad ones. By far the best book is William Lilly's Christian Astrology. This was written in 1647. Lilly was consulted by kings and princes from across Europe; he had read just about everything on his subject and was seeing over 2000 clients a year (his note-books survive to prove it) - this combination of experience and learning makes his work without parallel… Lilly is great fun - his personality comes across very strongly, with his ardent love of astrology."

- Could you explain what horary astrology is? (to a neophyte)

John Frawley Horary is the branch of astrology that gives specific answers to specific questions by judging a chart cast for the moment the question is asked.

- Can you explain the relationship between William Lilly and the church?

John Frawley Lilly was a devout Christian - all the major astrologers in the tradition have been devout followers of one or other of the revealed faiths. He titled his book 'Christian Astrology' to emphasise the error of claims by the presbyterians - who, in modern terms, would be 'evangelical protestants' - that astrology was contrary to faith.

- Are you a believer? A practising Christian? A Buddhist? Does this conflict with your practical experience?

John Frawley Practising Catholic. My understanding of astrology deepens my faith, and my faith deepens my understanding of astrology. Astrology without faith is impossible - as much modern 'astrology' makes plain.

- Saturn is also called the Lord of Karma (le Seigneur du karma). What would William Lilly think about karma?

John Frawley You'd have to ask William Lilly that.

- How did you discover William Lilly?

John Frawley I had been studying modern 'astrology' for some twenty years, when a friend, who knew how frustrated I was with the vagueness and subjectivity of the moderns pointed me towards Lilly - for which I remain ever grateful.
